Chapter 5 of 56% of exam

Roles and Process Groups

This short chapter ties the framework together by naming the process groups that organize project work and the key roles that carry it out.

The five process groups

Project management processes are organized into five groups: Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and Controlling, and Closing. These are not strictly sequential phases; multiple groups can be active at once and they interact throughout the project.

Sponsor and project manager

The sponsor provides resources and funding, authorizes the charter, champions the project, and removes high-level obstacles. The project manager leads the team and manages the work day to day to meet objectives within the agreed constraints.

The team and stakeholders

The project team performs the work to create the deliverables, while stakeholders influence and are affected by outcomes. Clear roles and responsibilities, often documented in a responsibility assignment matrix, keep accountability transparent.
