South Carolina Project Management
Managing a project means controlling both the schedule and who is allowed to perform each scope of work. This chapter covers the critical path and the self-perform limit.
The critical path
The critical path is the longest chain of dependent activities through the project network. It has zero float and sets the shortest possible completion time, so any slip on a critical activity delays the whole project. Activities off the critical path carry float and can absorb some delay.
The self-perform limit
A South Carolina general contractor (GC-Building) may self-perform specialty trade work only when it is ancillary to the building project and does not exceed about 20% of the total project cost. Larger specialty scopes must be performed by an appropriately licensed contractor.
