Buildings, Structures, and Related Work

This section is about 9% of the exam: mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems, and demolition, disposal and recycling. For a Class A contractor these are usually pump stations, utility services and the demolition that clears the site. Systems

Equipment is submitted, installed, tested and turned over; energy is locked out during servicing.

Lockout/tagout
Stop, de-energize, block and tag equipment whose unexpected start or stored energy could injure someone.

Demolition

A written survey, utilities off, hazards purged, asbestos inspected and notified, then top-down demolition.

The NESHAP demolition notice is due 10 working days ahead even if no asbestos is found.
