Safety

Safety is about 18% of the exam: personnel and job site safety, PPE, and hazardous material safety. Cal/OSHA's numbers and the California MUTCD's traffic control rules supply most of the questions. Programs and people

Every employer has an injury and illness prevention program, a code of safe practices and regular toolbox meetings.

Toolbox meetings

At least every 10 working days.

Required for falls over 7-1/2 feet.

Work in a road uses a temporary traffic control zone under the CA MUTCD 2026.

Health hazards

Heat, silica, lead and confined spaces each have their own triggers.

Heat

Shade above 80 degrees F; high-heat procedures at 95 degrees F.
