| Administering body | Kentucky Department of Insurance The Department runs the exams itself, with no outside testing vendor: candidates book through a Department eServices account after their application is processed, and sit a computerized exam at the Department in Frankfort or at a community or technical college site. Walk-ins are not accepted. Resident agent applicants must first complete a 20-hour pre-licensing classroom or self-study course for the lines of authority requested. | Questions | There is no combined Life & Health exam; the regulation requires a life examination for the life line and a health examination for the health line. The Department's study outlines give each exam 50 questions: Life has 3 questions on Kentucky law, Health has 4. | Time limit | Not published by Kentucky Department of Insurance No time limit for the Life or Health exam is printed. The only durations the Department publishes are for consultant exams, and they disagree: the Testing Sites page says 150 questions in 190 minutes, while the schedule document says the consultant exam takes 3 hours. | Passing score | 70% The regulation requires an applicant to "answer correctly seventy (70) percent of the questions". The Department's schedule says an applicant may test an unlimited number of times within the 120-day window of the application, with a $50 fee for each scheduled retake; a failed exam cannot be rescheduled for the same day. | Fees |
All three amounts are set in 806 KAR 4:010 and match the Department's Fee Summary. The exam fee is charged per exam, so Life and Health are $50 each. The criminal background report ordered through the Administrative Office of the Courts is paid separately and its fee is not printed in these sources.
