Data Insights measures how well you read and interpret data presented in tables and simple figures. You will compute totals, averages, ratios, and percentage changes and compare quantities. The full exam also uses multi-source and graphical prompts; the items here focus on self-contained table interpretation.
Read the Table Before the Question
Note what each row and column represents and the units involved before you calculate. Many mistakes come from pulling a number from the wrong cell. Underline the exact quantity the question asks for.
Core Calculations: Totals, Averages, Ratios, and Change
Average equals sum divided by count; a ratio should be reduced to lowest terms; and percentage change equals the difference divided by the original value, times 100. Keep the original (not the new) value in the denominator for percent change. Double-check which two cells you are comparing.
