How PrepPass practice works

PrepPass has 157,404+ original practice questions across 599 US licensing and certification exams. Practice, mock exams and study chapters are free and need no account. A few exams also have a paid downloadable study guide; it is a separate product and does not unlock any of what is described here.

Question bank

Every question is written from the exam's official source and carries an answer explanation shown after you answer. You can practise by topic or browse every question in the bank without answering. How questions are written and checked.

Practice modes

Each exam's practice page offers these modes, switchable at any time:

All topics
A shuffled round across every topic, interleaved so neighbouring questions rarely share a topic.
Adaptive
Orders the bank by need: questions from your weak topics first, then ones you missed or were unsure of, then unseen questions, then the ones you already know.
New questions
Only questions you have not answered yet.
Review due
Spaced review: a question you miss or guess comes back the next day, and each correct review doubles the gap, so what you keep missing returns sooner than what you know.
Focus weak
Questions from the topics your answers so far flag as weak.
Saved
Questions you starred while practising.
My mistakes
Questions you last answered wrong, until you answer them right.

Mistakes and spaced review

“My mistakes” lists the questions you last answered wrong; a question leaves the list when you answer it correctly. “Review due” schedules them: a question you miss, or answer correctly but mark as a guess, comes back the next day, and every correct answer after that doubles the gap (1, 2, 4, 8, 16 days). Once the gap would reach 30 days or more, it counts as learned. The round also includes other questions, such as unseen ones from your weak topics, so it is not only repeats.

Timed mock exams

A full timed paper per exam, with a score report afterwards. The number of questions and the minutes are set per exam and shown on the exam's mock page; they are not the same for every exam.

The score report

Score and result
Your overall percentage for the paper. Where the exam publishes a fixed percentage pass line, the score is shown against it (pass, almost, or keep going); where it does not, the score is labelled a practice estimate and not a pass or fail.
Score by topic
A score for every topic on the paper, with the weakest topics ranked so you can see which to drill first.
Your next step
One plain next action drawn from the result: which topics to drill before retaking.
Retest weak topics
A shorter paper built from your weak topics, with before-and-after scores per topic compared with the full mock.
Answer review
Every question on the paper with your answer, the correct answer and the explanation.
Past attempts
Your earlier mock scores for the same exam on this device, and the change from your last mock.
Print or save
The report can be printed or saved as a PDF, and a practice-completion certificate is available. The certificate is not a licence or a credential.
How the paper is drawn
Questions are sampled from every topic, weighted to the exam's published topic mix where one exists and spread evenly where it does not; the report says which.

Readiness check and progress

Most exams have a 10-question readiness check that takes about 5minutes and points you to where to practise next. Your dashboard shows a readiness gauge built from four things about your own practice: coverage of the exam's topics, recent accuracy, how many questions you have answered, and how regularly you practise. It is a signal about your practice on this device, not a prediction of the real exam result.

Study chapters and plans

Most exams have free study chapters that teach the material topic by topic, and some have a day-by-day study plan that sequences the chapters and practice around a test date.

Accounts

Without an account your progress and saved questions live in your browser on that device. A free account keeps them across devices. Nothing in the practice system is reserved for buyers of a study guide.

What it looks like for a few exams

Numbers differ by exam; each line below is read from that exam's own data.

Common questions

Is the PrepPass practice really free?
Yes. The question bank, every practice mode, the timed mock exams, the readiness check and the study chapters need no payment and no account. The paid study guides are a separate, optional product and do not unlock any of this.
Do I need an account?
No. Your answers, saved questions and mistakes are kept in your browser. A free account keeps them when you switch device.
What does the mock exam score report show?
Your overall score, a score for every topic with the weakest ranked first, a next step, an optional retest built from your weak topics with before-and-after scores, a review of every question with explanations, your past attempts, and a printable report. The same report is used for every exam that has a mock. Where an exam publishes a fixed pass line the score is shown against it; where it does not, the score is labelled a practice estimate.
Does the readiness score predict whether I will pass?
No. It summarises your own practice on this device — how much of the exam's topics you have covered, your recent accuracy, how many questions you have answered and how regularly you practise. It is a signal about your practice, not a forecast of the real exam result.
How does PrepPass decide what to review again?
A question you miss, or answer correctly but mark as a guess, comes back the next day. Each time you then answer it correctly the gap doubles (1, 2, 4, 8, 16 days); once it would reach 30 days or more it counts as learned and drops out of the queue.
