Hygiene and Sanitation
Standard precautions include thorough hand washing before and after each client and providing clean, fresh linens for every session. Contact surfaces are sanitized between clients to prevent cross-contamination. These practices apply regardless of how healthy a client appears.
Scope of Practice
Massage therapists work within a defined scope: they do not diagnose conditions, prescribe medication, or perform techniques outside their training and licensure. When a client's needs fall outside that scope, the appropriate action is referral to a qualified provider.
Business and Professional Conduct
Professional practice also includes clear policies, accurate record keeping, honest marketing, respectful communication, and ongoing continuing education. Operating ethically and lawfully builds client trust and supports a sustainable practice.
