Management Products and Tailoring
PRINCE2 communicates through management products, the documents and records used to plan, control and report. This chapter classifies them and explains how the method is tailored to fit each project.
Three types of management product
Baselines define and are subject to change control, such as the PID, Business Case and Plans. Records are dynamic logs such as the risk register, issue register and daily log. Reports communicate status, including the checkpoint, highlight, end stage and end project reports.
Key reports and their flow
A checkpoint report flows from a Team Manager to the Project Manager. A highlight report flows from the Project Manager to the Project Board at an agreed frequency. An exception report is raised when a stage or project is forecast to breach its tolerances.
Tailoring the method
Tailoring adapts PRINCE2 to a project's scale, complexity, importance, risk and team capability, deciding how principles are applied, how practices are handled, and how much documentation is appropriate. Tailoring never removes a principle; all seven still apply.
