Everyday Grammar
PTE General checks that you can use everyday English structures accurately. This chapter reviews narrative tenses, quantifiers, verb patterns, and wish clauses that appear in general communication.
Narrative Tenses
Use the past continuous for an action in progress and the past simple for the event that interrupts it: 'While I was cooking, the phone rang.'
Quantifiers
Match the quantifier to the noun: 'much' with uncountable nouns ('much milk') and 'many/a few/several' with countable nouns.
Verb Patterns and Wishes
After 'let' and 'make', use the bare infinitive ('let the children play'). 'I wish' about the present takes the past simple ('I wish I had more time').
