Reading Comprehension
The Reading section of the ATI TEAS 7 measures how well you understand, analyze, and use written material. You will read short passages, charts, labels, and instructions, then answer questions about main ideas, supporting details, structure, and the author's purpose. Because nurses must read patient charts, medication labels, and clinical guidelines accurately, this section rewards careful, evidence-based reading rather than guessing. This chapter breaks reading into the core skills tested: finding key ideas and details, understanding craft and structure, and integrating information from multiple sources.
Mathematics
The Mathematics section of the ATI TEAS 7 tests the numerical skills nurses use daily, from calculating medication dosages to interpreting patient data. It focuses on two main areas: numbers and algebra, and measurement and data. You are allowed a basic four-function calculator, but understanding the underlying operations matters more than button-pushing. This chapter reviews arithmetic with fractions, decimals, and percentages; solving equations and proportions; converting units of measurement; and reading and interpreting data. Mastering these fundamentals lets you work accurately and quickly under time pressure.
Science
Science is the most heavily weighted section of the ATI TEAS 7, reflecting how much foundational science nursing requires. It emphasizes human anatomy and physiology, along with life science (biology), physical science (chemistry and physics basics), and scientific reasoning. This chapter surveys the major body systems and how they work together, the structure and function of cells, the fundamentals of genetics and chemistry, and the logic of the scientific method. A strong grasp of how the body maintains balance, or homeostasis, ties these topics together and prepares you for clinical study.
English and Language Usage
The English and Language Usage section of the ATI TEAS 7 assesses your command of standard written English, which nurses need for clear, accurate documentation. It covers three areas: conventions of standard English (grammar, spelling, and punctuation), knowledge of language (sentence structure and formal style), and using context and word parts to determine meaning. This chapter reviews the grammar rules most frequently tested, correct punctuation and capitalization, precise word choice, and strategies for decoding unfamiliar vocabulary using prefixes, roots, and suffixes common in medical terminology.
