This is the largest domain on the RHIT exam and the heart of the health information technician's job: making sure the health record contains the right content, is structured and identified correctly, and is governed as a trustworthy asset. Mastery here means knowing documentation standards, record formats, the master patient index, data quality, and retention rules cold.
Data Analytics & Use
Health data only creates value when it is turned into information. This domain tests healthcare statistics, rate calculations, and data presentation — the ability to compute standard hospital measures correctly and display them so decision-makers can act.
Revenue Cycle Management
The revenue cycle turns clinical care into appropriate, compliant payment. RHITs sit at the center of it — accurate coding, clean documentation, and correct charge capture determine whether claims are paid correctly the first time.
Compliance
Compliance protects the organization, patients, and public payers from fraud, abuse, and error. RHITs must know the major fraud-and-abuse laws, the elements of a compliance program, and the audit contractors that review claims.

This domain governs who may see protected health information (PHI), how it is released, and how it is safeguarded. The HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and the HITECH breach-notification requirements are the backbone.
Leadership
As HIM professionals advance, they supervise staff, manage projects, and drive performance improvement. This domain covers the management fundamentals: staffing math, quality-improvement methods, training, and the difference between policies and procedures.
